Hi! I'm back!
Life has certainly been a whirlwind since I have last published a digital manifestation of my consciousness.
So much has happened and I'm going to try to recall as much as I can about the series of events that have led up to where I am now: that is, sitting a bar in downtown Shanghai, typing away in the hour before my scheduled meet-up with a British theoretical physicist.
I'm not even going to try to edit this post or make it read well, I've been procrastinating writing for so long that I just need to let it all flow out on my screen. In the coming weeks, I'll try to make my posts 1) more consistent 2)more grammatically correct 3)more succinct
I arrived in Osaka. I met up with the Garfinkels at the Imperial Hotel Osaka. We went out that night and Landon discovered a nice restaurant in this area that was crazy crowded and had pretty good street food. I was incredibly jet lagged though and promptly passed out upon returning to our room. Also, my life was forever changed when I discovered that sorcery that is Japanese toilets. Heated seat. Bidet. Odor control. Magic.
We got up and I recall I had a really nice Facetime call with my dearest girlfriend Catherine who the very next day was flying out herself to Austria to begin the European Peace Walk. After breakfast, the Garfinkels and I took a cab to the Osaka Aquarium which truly was magnificent. We saw all kinds of creatures, including two whale sharks.
Later that night, we got back to the hotel and took a nap before the welcome dinner for the Abercrombie and Kent trip. Landon and I discovered that we were the only people on the trip honestly under the age of 40, whereas most of the cruise goers were 60+. We made friends quickly however. This one woman introduced herself to the group as the Grand Duchess of Poland (still unclear whether she is or is not) and we started saluting her whenever her highness came our way.
We also befriended Phil Otterson, Chairman, A&K USA who really just did an incredible job accommodating Landon and I. Phil is coming to Durham in August for a health clinic and we are going to hang out.
Okay so I just realized how long this post will be if I write as much for every day as I did for the last one. I'm just going to do bullets and pictures. Sound good to you?
Takahashi, Okayama, Japan
Hiroshima and Miyojima, Japan
Okay. I think that is enough for now.
That brings us to about 1/3 of the way to the present. Much more has happened, especially since I've been in China, but for now, I'll leave you with some closing remarks/thoughts.
Thanks for reading!!!
I'm going to try to finish up Japan in another post in the next few days, then try to chronicle China thus far a few days after that. I'm going to try to get in the habit of blogging more, and sorry for the long hiatus. You, dearest reader (aka my mother and her friends), should know that I am safe now and really excited for my adventure to come. I'm being challenged and growing everyday and please send me messages and let me know how you are doing. I would love to hear from everyone.
That's all for know. Going to meet my physicist friend for a beer and cards.
Also, Cat, I love you :)
